2009 WAYNE COUNTY FAIR DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
WAYNE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS CORYDON, IOWA - 6:00 P.M.
Derby Dates are Saturday, May 30th, Sunday July 26th, and Saturday, September 26 th
Inspection starts at 12:00 noon and ends promptly at 5:00 P.M.
Entry Fee: $45.00 for one driver and one mechanic. Pit Pass - $20.00

General Rules
I. Any American made sedan or station wagon may be ran No 73 or older Imperials or Imperial sub-fi'ames, No 70 or older
Lincolns. 4x4 '5. ambulances. hearses. trucks. etc.
2. 80/newer cars must be a 1980 or newer body style car.
3. Driver must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Ages 14-17 must have a notarized permission slip and some form of driver's license.
4. Driver must wear seat belt, helmet. and some t{)rm of eye protection.
5. No intentional driver's door hits. It does happen and you will be dq'cd if we feel it was intentional. Do not use your door as a shield either as you will be disqualified for that also.
6. You will be given 30 seconds for an aggressive hit and 60 seconds for a restart or if you are hung up.
7. No sandbagging or holding.
8. ffyou have 2 fires of any kind that need extinguishers to put it out, you will be disqualified.
9. All drivers and pit crew members must attend the drivers mecting
10. Any controversies will be taken up at the drivers meeting.
II No Alcohol in the pits. If any driver or crewmember is caught with alcohol their car wiU be disqualified and removed hom the grounds.
12. Cars arc subject to re-inspection bel{)re any prize money is handed out. There is a $150 pro-test fee and you must be a driver in order to protest.
13. You must arrive 2 hours prior to any shows starting time. you will be charged a $50 late lee and if you do not arrive an I hour
prior you will forfeit your entry fcc. Please call if you will be late.
14. Any questions call tirst. If it doesn't say you can do it, don't do it.
15. Judges decisions are Final.
Car Preparation
I. All cars must be stock, unless modilication is stated in the rules.
2. All glass, plastic, chrome, etc. must be removed bet<)re arriving at the derby. Do not paint on the fi'ame or inside of the car. Remove all grease from frame. Bolts to hold any chain can not go through the frame. No t{)am in frame.
3. All decking in station wagons must be removed.
4. Use motor and tranny of choice but must be in stock location. May weld or chain the motor or tranny in place but it can not be used to strengthen the frame. Motor or tranny can not be connected to any part of the cage. Crossmember must be in stock
location and stock appearing with no extra bracing. If we feel that it docs you will cut it.
5. Use rear end of choice but must be 5 lug. Welding the rear end is allowed.
6. Radiator must be in stock location.
7. Brakes must be workable and deemed safe.
8. Trailer hitches and any extra bracing must be removed.
9. A-arms and ball joints must remain stock.
10. Original gas tanks must be removed. You must usc a boat tank or well made fuel cell and it must be properlv secured and ccovered. NO GAS CANS. Plastic gas tanks must be eovered with a metal shield. Place tilel cell behind driver's scat or in the
center of the car. Can not have gas tank bolts connected to the frame.
11. Tires no bigger than 15 inch. No split rims or studded tires. Valve stem protectors are ok.
12. Transmission coolers arc allowed but must be saf'C.
13. Batteries must be moved to passenger tloorboard and must be properly secured and covered
14. Number must be on both doors and on top of your roof in visible colors.
Car Building
I. DO NOT weld on frames or Ii'ame seams anywhere except :.'our bumpers and ONLY A-am] forward may be welded on top side trame seam .. All doors maybe welded solid using only 3/8" cold rolled llIIer, or up to 3" x 5116 thick nat strap. Exterior only
may be welded. NO inner scam welding anywhere!! Trunks/iailgates may be welded solid but must have at least a 12-inch square cut in them. No homemade body seams.
2. If you do not weld your doors, trunk, or tailgate you can chain them with 3/8 ehain or less and will be allowed 2 chains per scam
or you may wire it with #9 wire up to 3 strands in two spots per seam.
3. A bar behind the seat is mandatory. You may also run a roll loop that must be welded or bolted to the back bar, !laoI' pan, or trame. The back bar and rollbar can only be 12 inches behind the seat and must be vertical, cannot be horizontal. You may also
have a bar across your dash. You may connect the two bars. You may run a down bar on hoth the drivers side and passenger side hars but must be in the middle of the door, No kickers trom any of the bars,. You may weld a plate on the outside of the driver's door only but can not exceed 6 inches past each seam.
4. Bumpers are interchangeablc but must be a car bumpcr. No homemade bumpers or brackets. You can weld bumpcr brackcts or towcrs to the framc. You can weld bumper brackets and shocks to thc bumpcr. You can weld shocks to shock towcr. Bumpers must be stock appearing and deemed safe. 2 Straps(4" wide, y," thick) or 2 strands of #9 wire can go from the bumper to the radiator support, not hood. You may add one strap(2" wide, 1/4" thick) that can go from any side of the bumper and be welded ONLY 3 inches on the frame. Call with any questions.
5. Rear bumper may have 2 straps Irom trunk deck or tailgate to bumper not to the trame. Straps can he up to 4" wide and no more than 5" on the bumper and 5" on the trunk or tailgatc. Straps may be up to ,;:;" thick.
6. Hood must be off or open for inspection. Hood must havc at least a 12-inch square hole cut out for fires. YOII are allowed \6 total bolts in your hood for your cutouts. You are allowed 8 hood bolts and must have at least 4. You can use up to I" all thread for your hood bolts. Chrysler products may run all thread behind radiator support down to top of trame and be welded to top of trame with no added material. Hood bolts must be sheet metal to sheet metal. llood plates can not exceed 5x5xl /2" If ~- - ~--------_.",.,,-,._-
you weld your hood down you must have enough cut out so we can see everything. This means you might have to cut your hood hole bigger.
7. Trunk/tailgate must hc in stock location. You may 1(,ld over 60% orthc trunk lid. No tucking or wagons or wedging or sedan trunks. You may run two I" all thread from trunk lid to frame but must ~o through body mount hole and have a spacer between the body and frame.
8. Body mounts can he replaced with lip to 1" holts and the hody mounts can be replaced with steel washers bnt must he \-
1/4" thickness and have the same diameter. Yon MLST have a 3/4" space between the body and frame. You may add two holts but thcy must go through a factory frame hole. May weld the spacers to the body but not thc frame. Bolts may extcnd through body and have up to a 5x5x I /4" thick washer on top but must be removed tl.lr inspection. Radiator support mounts Clm bc I" and rcmoved and sucked down solid.
9 Rust holcs may be patchcd with sheet metal only and no thicker than 1/8" thick. Weld only 2 inches past thc rust holc. You may also use self tapping screws to screw a piece in ovcr the rust but tbis IS the only placc self tapping screws may be used on the car.
10. Tie rod cnds and rear control arms may be strengthened but must be workable.
II Suspension must be stock height. l.ear springs must be stock. Lear spring thickness can not be greater than 5116" You may add one extra leaf spring as long as the main but it may not be wrappcd to jl.)rm a double main. l.eaf springs must stagger down Irom
longest to smallest. 5 clamps are allowed per side. Homemade elamps may not exeecd 2x4xli4" You can put spacers in sagging coil springs. You may bolt or wire your coils in to prevent them trom falling out. You may loop wire or chain ti'om rear end to li'ame in 2 spots on each side. No bigger than #9 wire (4strands max.) or 3/8" chain may be used. You may run wire from Irame rail to Irame rail in two spots behind the rear end.
12. You will be allowed I spot with 4 loops of wire in each window opening and may go through the frame.
13. Hardtop cars can weld a strap at the doorpost.
14. May alter steering column.
15. You may cut out wheel wells tl.)r tire clearance. Fenders maybe bolted or welded back together but not both. If you bolt them vou may bolt them with 8 3/8" bolts or less. If vou weld them vou arc allowed S \" sections.
I 6. Must h~ve at least 1 windshield bar in the front windshield tor sat~ty purposes. Any back windshield bars may not come ill contact with the trunk lid.
17. Bent franH's maybe repaired with I/S" metal, 2" past the bend on two sides of the frame. You can ouly repair the frame once in a spot. We Must be ahle to clearly see the bend or you will cut the patch off.
18. If we have any suspicion that your car might be illegal we will drill one or morc holes in your frame.
19. No Distributor Protectors.
20. SO/newer cars only!. You may weld on the frame scam, \6" total from the a-arm back, 'Iz" wide. You JIIay not usc any filler.
21. All Fuel Lines Must be ran inside the car with high pressured lines and deemed safe!
22. Anything that we, as officials, feel that you have strengthens the car in an unfair advantage, you will have to cut it.
23. Leaf conversions on 80's cars May only be done if running in an old iron class
a. Must use the factory lower control arm mounts bracket tor tront leaf bolts. No shOJi stacks or sideway mounted Icafs allowed. You may lightly re-weld control arm bracket seams, but no frame rcinforcements.
b. You are allowed 9 lears maximum, only one as long as the main(and under the main), and the rest must be staggered cvery 2 inches. You may use 5 lear spring clamps per side. No welding. Springs must be of passcnger car origin.
c. May weld 3 inch washer to trame fbI' rear mount bolt. No other welding or bracing allowed on hame
d. You CAN NOT weld 16 inches b,:hind the a-arm if you leaf and 80's car.
Rules for Compact Building
I General Rules and Car Preparation also apply to compacts.
2. Wheelbase is 108 inchcs or less with a 4 or 6 cylindcr motor.

PAY OUT FOR EACH CLASS
Old Iron Class pays first - $700 second - $500 - third - $300.
The 80's & New Class pays first - $500 second $300 - third $200.
Compact Class pays first - $450 - second - $275 - third $175.
Powder Puff pays first- $325, second - $225 - third.
